Biography
Bernard Vallat was elected Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in May 2000 by the World Assembly, which brings together the national Delegates of all OIE Member Countries. His first five-year term of office began on 1 January 2001. In May 2005 and 2010, the Organisation’s 178 Member Countries elected Dr Vallat for a second and a third five years term of office. He graduated from the National Veterinary School in Toulouse (France) in 1971, qualifying as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He then took two postgraduate courses, first in tropical veterinary medicine (1972) and then in animal nutrition at the Institut National Agronomique in Paris (1973). He was the Chief Veterinary Officer for France, with the title of Deputy Director General for Food (in charge of animal and plant health and food safety and quality). He is also Doctor Honoris Causa as well as a member of a number of scientific and/or veterinary academies in France and in other countries around the world.

Former scientific project manager in animal production sector at the International Cooperation Centre for agronomic Research in Development (CIRAD- France) and International camel expert at FAO (Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Mauritania, Kazakhstan) Doctorate in veterinary medicine at Lyon (France) in 1974, then MSci in animal nutrition and endocrinology in 1980 After an eight-years African experience both in development (Niger) and in research (Ethiopia), PhD in animal epidemiology in 1995 (Paris University), then habilitation to manage research team (HDR), a French capacity diploma at Montpellier University in 1998 After African period, epidemiologist at the Ecopathology laboratory (National Agronomic Research Institute -INRA) at Clermont-Ferrand (France) and head of this laboratory for ten years (studies on risk factors of diseases in dairy farming systems). Since 1996, joining CIRAD- Montpellier as head of animal production program (1996-2007) and from 2010 to 2015 working as FAO international consultant in Saudi Arabia in the Camel Center at Kharj. Many expertises and missions achieved in more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania. Awarded of the French Vet academy and “Chevalier du mérite agricole†(Ministry of Agriculture high distinction). Author of 23 books and chapters in different books and more than 600 scientific papers One of the founders of ISOCARD and first chairman of this Society (2006-2009) Since 2016, retired from CIRAD and at present independent international camel expert for FAO, OIE, WHO and private sector.

Srebrenka Nejedli is a full Professor in Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology Veterinary Faculty, University of Zagreb, Croatia. She is also a Member of EAVA and European Aquaculture Society
